“The painter searches for the border, the relationship and the harmony between visual perception and the reflection of the soul — between the surface and the interior.”

About

Portrait photograph of the painter Mykola Bodnar

Mykola Bodnar is a painter of architecture, of environment, and of the atmosphere of a city — Košice, Bratislava, Vienna. He paints his varied compositions with temperament and vitality.

He also paints the land: mountains, lakes and rivers, moody fragments of the forest, trees. His flower still lifes are both veristic and impressive — explosions and gentle exhalations of colour, large organisms of bouquets, whole systems of painterly intoxication with motif, colour and scent.

The second pole of his painting is abstraction, close to the heritage of informel and to action and gestural painting: a dynamic making-visible of the invisible, compositions overflowing with energy and radiant colour. Somewhere the abstractions interlace with a realistic detail — a figure, a nude, a human face.
